NO BARK COLLARS AND THERE USES
Before you start using the no bark collar, it is important to determine why your dog is barking in the first place. Because barking is a form of communication for our furry friend, you will want to make sure that you do not send your dog the wrong message. If the dog is barking out of fear, separation anxiety, or aggression a no bark collar could make the problem worse. That is why it is important to explore the cause of the barking first.

Some dogs bark more than others and if you have a dog that is mostly outside, you may have noticed they bark more. Dogs that spend much of their time outside tend to be more social and may require more attention. Guard dogs and hound dogs were bred for their talent of barking when needed and are expected to bark. Asking a guard dog to never bark is asking a lot, but that does not mean they are not still trainable. Training the dog when to be silent is key here.

In some cases the dog is only attempting to tell you that something is wrong or that they are not happy. If the excessive barking is a recent development in your dog’s behavior, then you will want to contemplate on what has changed in the dog’s life. If your hours at work have changed, your dog may require some time to get use to this change. Perhaps your work hours are always changing, and your dog is just craving some consistency.

Here are a few suggesting that will help get you started:

  • Is hungry.

  • Desires play time.

  • Wants to go outside or come inside.

  • The dog could be bored, frustrated, anxious, or just vocalizing excitement.

  • For more active dogs, increase play time and build an exercise routine.

  • Take the dog on errands with you. Even a quick car ride can provide enough mental stimulation for them to be satisfying.

  • Do not reward barking with yelling. It may not seem like a reward, but it is giving the dog attention and that may be what he or she wants. Instead, ignore the dog when barking and reward them when they are quiet.

  • Determine what usually gets the dog barking and avoid them. For example: if the dog always barks at the mailman, try putting the dog someplace they can not see the mailman when mail comes.

Only after you have explored these possible causes for your dog's barking, can you then begin using no bark collars as a tool for the next step in furthering your dog’s training.
