Changing Car Brake Pads

Brake pad is one part of the brake system that presses against a spinning disk, making the the car stops. Once the brake pads wear out, you will notice some signs such as squealing sounds of brakes, grinding noise and many others. These signs indicate that you must replace your brake pads immediately to prevent further damage. Changing brake pads is not a hard task and doing it by yourself is a good idea. By doing so, you can explore your car and save money at the same time. Here are some tips on how to change your car brake pads:

  1. Make a quick check on the brake pads. Before you purchase one, consult your car owner's manual to know the right pads for your car. Cheap pads generally wear out faster.

  2. To change the brake pads, you will need to remove the tires by using a jack to raise the car. You have to loosen the tire lug nuts before you remove it.

  3. Remove the calipers assembly to place the new pads. Remove the bolts of the calipers and the connector lines or the brake hose.

  4. Before placing the new pads, examine the condition of other brake system components and clean them. Place the new pads in the calipers.

  5. Bolt and reinstall the calipers back to the rotors. Make sure you place it correctly, then put the wheel back. Place the lug nuts and hand tighten it. Lower the car to the ground slowly before tightening the lug nuts evenly.

  6. Test your brakes. Consider checking and refilling your brake fluids. With the new brake, you will notice scraping and scratching sounds. These things are just normal and usually go away in a few days.
